Basics of D'ni Exploration
Notable Explorers
-
Willow (Wheely) Engberg
The 14 year old daughter of DRC member Michael Engberg. When he returned to the Cavern in early 2006, Michael brought Wheely along and she currently resides with the DRC staff. It is known that she is currently pursuing Yeesha's Journey, and the DRC seems to have taken a more lenient view towards this than they once did.
-
Nick White
One of the Resident Engineers in the linguistics department. Although he started under Dr. Watson's supervision, he was transferred to Douglas Sharper to help with the translation of various documents related to Teledahn. As their relationship grew, Douglas entrusted Nick with a number of documents related to the slave trade on Teledahn and Rebek which were kept hidden from the DRC. He returned to Cavern when the DRC re-opened it in early 2006, and is presumably continuing with his linguistic duties.
-
Douglas Sharper
One of the early Resident Engineers. Sharper was originally assigned to Ae'gura, but in 1997 [need to verify this] was given responsibility for the restoration of Teledahn. His journals of this can found in the office he commandeered in the old Guild buildings. Douglas became something of a "loose cannon" among the DRC, going so far as too keep books and documents hidden from them while publicly denouncing their methods. Under the influence of Phil Henderson, he became a follower of Yeesha, and her Journeys had a profound influence on him. The two became convinced that the restoration of D'ni was more spiritual than physical, and in late 2003 Sharper and Brian Fioca founded the group which came to be known as The Great Tree. Although still in their employ, Douglas became more vocal in his opposition of the DRC. This came to a head with the disappearance of Phil in early 2004, and when the DRC closed the Cavern shortly thereafter, Sharper decided to stay and continue his Journey. Although he apparently stayed in the Cavern for several months, his current whereabouts are unknown.
-
Phil Henderson
An early Resident Engineer. While working in Eder Kemo in 2002 he became trapped behind the Journey Door there, and disappeared from all DRC contact. Several months later he reappeared a different man, speaking mystically of Yeesha and the regrowth, not restoration, of D'ni. It is thought he was the first and foremost disciple of Yeesha, and often disappeared for chunks of time while on various Journeys with her. Phil had a significant influence on Douglas Sharper, which led to the formation of The Great Tree group. He was detained by the DRC members in late 2003 for questioning in regards to his extra-curricular activities, and was later released. In early 2004 Phil was discovered exploring the upper levels of the Guild Hall against DRC regulations. While a crowd gathered below to watch his progress, he was caught in a large rockslide and disappeared for the last time. Although his smashed ki device was found by rescue workers, his body was never recovered, and his fate remains a mystery to this day.
-
Brian Fioca
One of the first guests allowed by the DRC to visit the Cavern in 2003, and founder of The Great Tree movement. He is known to be a close associate of Douglas Sharper, and it is under his influence that the Great Tree came into being. Dedicated to the regrowth ideal of Yeesha, Brian led several group protests against the DRC. The most famous of these are the Great Stairs Sit-in on ?? 2003 and the storming of the Kahlo Pub on ??2003. The DRC closed access to the Cavern before the tensions could be resolved. Brian moved home to Alaska and married fellow Explorer MoietyJean. He continues to be involved with the Great Tree group through it's online connections.

- Born: March 12th 1962
- Education: Doctorate Anthropology, Southern Illinois University
- Personal DRC Role:Dr. Sutherland has been a friend of Dr. Watson for many years, including years spent in the teaching profession. Dr. Sutherland first joined the expedition in 1993 and has been a member of the DRC since its forming in 1997. Dr. Sutherland oversees Phase Three (Detailed Analysis) and Phase Five (Limited Access) restoration efforts for all structures and Ages. Most recently Dr. Sutherland has spent a large portion of her time on a variety of areas on Ae'gura.
-
Dr. Ikuro Kodama
- Positon: Geology/Structural Integrity
- Born: October 5th 1957
- Education:B. A. Mechanical Engineering Technology, New Mexico Tech
Doctorate in Geology, University of Southern California - Personal DRC Role:Dr. Kodama has also been a friend of Dr. Watson for some time, including years spent in the teaching profession. Dr. Kodama first visited D'ni in 1994 and was an original member of the DRC when it formed in 1997. Dr. Kodama oversees all Phase One (Initial Mapping) and Phase Two (Structural Analysis) restoration efforts for all structures and Ages. Most recently Dr. Kodama has spent a large part of his time on areas still early in the restoration process including the Pub awarded to the Baron and Laki

Victor Laxman
- Positon: Chief Engineer
- Born: June 14th 1958
- Education: Multiple Engineering Degrees, University of Cambridge
Joined Royal Navy in '78 and served for 12 years - Personal DRC Role: Victor Laxman first learned of the restoration effort in early 1995 from Dr. Watson. Mr. Laxman decided to join the Council in 1997 as an original member. Mr. Laxman's engineering knowledge and experience is hard to beat and, as a result, he oversees all Phases of restoration for all devices and equipment. Most recently, Mr. Laxman has spent a large part of his time on the KI and Great Zero.

Michael Engberg
- Positon: Architectural Analysis
- Born: September 9th 1966
- Education: · Masters of Building Science, University of Southern California
- Personal DRC Role:Michael Engberg first learned of D'ni and the DRC restoration efforts through Dr. Kodama. As a result, Mr. Engberg visited D'ni for the first time in 1998. Mr. Engberg became an official member of the Council in 1999, and, as a result, is the DRC's youngest senior member. Mr. Engberg oversees Phase Four (Restoration) for all structures and Ages.
